Fuchsia Gall Mite

In our September 2006 newsletter, we posted a letter from the Department of Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) about the discovery of Fuchsia Gall Mite (Aculops fusciae) in Guernsey.  This is a quarantine listed pest that attacks and seriously damages fuchsias.  They are known to attack three species of fuchsia:

  • F. arborescens
  • F. magellanica
  • F. procumbens.

and more than 30 different cultivars.

This is a serious problem, especially since it is a quarantine controlled pest.   For more information please look at DEFRA's web site at

http://www.defra.gov.uk/planth/pestnote/fuschia.pdf

You will need Acrobat Reader installed on your PC, which is available free from Adobe's web site.   If the above link fails, then please go to the front page of DEFRA's web site and do a search for "Fuchsia Gall Mite".
